Cargo ships

The maritime autopilot for heavy-lift and project cargo

Every lift has a plan, a stability check, a sea-fastening design and a warranty surveyor. Naavra keeps them together per shipment, with who approved what and when, from the lift plan to the last supercargo report.

In the heavy-lift and project cargo pack

  • Lift plan register: weight, centre of gravity, rigging, crane set-up and who approved it
  • Stability confirmed at loading, at furthest outreach and for the voyage
  • Sea-fastening drawings, inspection before sailing and re-checks at sea
  • Marine warranty surveyor approvals and observations per shipment
  • Lifting gear certificates, deck strength and weather windows with a recorded go or no-go

11 features for heavy-lift and project cargo, plus everything every ship type gets. Your colleagues:

A day in the life

Two seats, one day with Naavra

An illustrative day. The colleagues prepare and chase; people decide and sign.

Project engineer, ashore

  1. 08:30
    A new lift plan

Weight, centre of gravity, rigging, crane configuration and sling angles entered; the approval goes to the chief engineer and the Master.

  2. 11:00
    The warranty surveyor

The method statement is approved; one observation is open and assigned.

  3. 14:00
    Deck strength

Point loads for the transformer checked against the deck limits and the dunnage area.

  4. 17:00
    The transport manual

The supercargo's update and the cargo owner's report go out from the same record.

Chief officer, on board

  1. 05:30
    Weather window

Wave and motion criteria met for the lift; the go decision is recorded.

  2. 07:00
    Stability at every stage

Stability confirmed at loading and at the furthest outreach, with heel limits and the anti-heeling tanks recorded.

  3. 12:00
    Sea-fastening

Welds, stoppers and chains inspected before sailing, with photos against the drawings.

  4. 18:00
    Lifting gear

A spreader's certificate expires next month; the inspection is booked.

What it does

Everything for heavy-lift and project cargo, grouped by the job it does

Plan every lift

  • Lift plan registerPer lift: weight and centre of gravity, rigging, crane configuration, sling angles, and who approved it.
  • Stability at every stageStability during loading, during the lift at furthest outreach and highest boom, and for the voyage, with heel limits and anti-heeling tanks recorded.
  • Tandem lift recordsProcedures, rehearsal and load-sharing records for two-crane lifts.
  • Weather window planningWeather and motion criteria for the lift and the voyage, with the go or no-go recorded.

Secure it for the sea

  • Sea-fastening design and inspectionApproved drawings, welds, stoppers, grillage and chains, inspected before sailing and re-checked at sea.
  • Deck strength and dunnageDunnage area, deck load limits and point loads checked per unit before loading.
  • Float-on and float-offBallast plan, submerged draft and cargo positioning for semi-submersible operations.

Work with the surveyor and the cargo owner

  • Marine warranty surveyor workflowMethod statements, approvals, certificates of approval and observations per shipment.
  • Transport manual and supercargo reportsThe transport manual per shipment, with supercargo and cargo-owner updates at each stage.

Keep the gear fit to lift

  • Lifting gear certificationSpreaders, traverses, slings and shackles with safe working load, certificates, inspections and expiry.
  • Heavy-lift crane maintenanceSlew bearings, hoist wires, hydraulics and load tests.

On every voyage

What every ship type gets

The voyage, performance and records work that tankers, gas carriers, container ships, breakbulk, Ro-Ro and offshore wind vessels all share.

Emissions and performance

  • Emissions ledgerCO2, methane and nitrous oxide per voyage from fuel and bunker records; EU ETS, FuelEU, UK ETS and IMO DCS figures, split by charter-party clause, with a CII forecast.
  • Speed and consumption claimsNoon reports against the charter-party warranty after good-weather filtering, with a claim or defence pack per voyage.
  • Hull and propeller performancePerformance loss trended; cleaning and polishing scheduled on evidence; the biofouling record book.

Reports and evidence

  • Noon and event reports by voiceThe Master speaks or photographs the noon data; the report fills itself, is checked against the last one and goes to the charterer.
  • Voyage evidence bundleOrders, logs, weather, automation exports and photos, indexed and time-stamped per voyage, ready for a dispute or a P&I claim.
  • Cargo claims packShortage, contamination or damage claims built from cargo records, photos and survey reports.
  • Charter-party clause libraryWarranties, off-hire, laytime and exclusions read from each charter party and checked against the voyage.

Records the ship keeps

  • Bunker quality and quantityDelivery notes, samples, test results and disputes tracked per stem.
  • Ballast water recordsTreatment-system operation and faults, the record book, exemptions and contingency measures.
  • Mooring line managementThe line management plan, line and tail records, winch brake tests and replacement by rule.
  • Cyber resilience registerOnboard IT and OT assets, patches, access and incidents, kept to the class rules for newer ships.

Questions

About Naavra for heavy-lift and project cargo

Does Naavra calculate the lift?

No. Your engineers and your approved software calculate it. Naavra keeps the plan, the approvals and the stability confirmation at each stage, so nothing is lost between the office and the deck.

Can the warranty surveyor work in it?

Yes. Method statements, approvals and observations are shared with the surveyor on a link you control.

Is the general cargo pack included?

A heavy-lift ship carries general cargo too, so the planner adds the general cargo and multipurpose pack and says why.

Does it record weather decisions?

Yes. The criteria for the lift and the voyage, and the go or no-go, are recorded with who made them.
