Port State detention risk: Paris MoU
The Paris MoU covers European and North Atlantic ports. Like other Port State Control regimes, it selects ships for inspection using a risk profile built from factors such as ship type and age, flag, the company's performance and the ship's own inspection history.
What inspectors commonly look at
- Certificates and documents, and whether surveys are in their windows.
- Fire safety and life-saving appliances.
- The safety management system in practice.
- Pollution prevention and record books.
- Navigation, and working and living conditions.
Before you arrive
Check the ship's profile, close open items from the last inspection, and run a pre-arrival checklist with the Master. The free detention-risk check shows the profile and the likely focus areas; it is a profile, never a forecast.
Always read the regime's own published rules and campaigns for the period of your call.
